GRECO KIMONO DRESS

Greek-style dress, cut at the waist, with a draped back cape.

Made in diagonal bias patchwork with panels taken from the silk of 2 antique kimonos found in Kyoto.

• Deep maroon kimono with Tie-Dye patterns known as Kanoko shibori in raw and black, creating relief and texture.
• Kettle red kimono with Kanoko shibori motifs in maroon and ecru, creating relief and texture.

The diagonal panels are highlighted with the edges of the original fabric dyed black, giving greater visibility to the patchwork. Kanoki shibori is a traditional Japanese technique that involves dyeing the fabric with the smallest possible knots to emphasize the three-dimensionality of the weave.  The kanoko or “deer fawn” made entirely in kimonos requires a great effort in its preparation, making the garment a luxury item.
